Leogane still struggling

Well, Tim and Lisa are on their way back right now from Leogane. They are in Santiago and are expecting to be back in Minnesota around 3pm tomorrow! Here is an update from Lisa's blog about her recent time down in Leogane:

"I'm so amazed by how God worked to bring me to Haiti this time. WOW. In the past few days in Leogane I spent a lot of time with the kids at the orphanage. Jas and Greg are really tired and the 'camping trip' it's quickly wearing on them. Can you imagine... managing 35 kids in something resembling a construction site, with one big hole dug for a toilet, no running water, a tarp for shelter, cold nights, shaking ground, sick kids... and the list goes on. The kids are contained in a small area of "safety." If they leave this little plot of land, they risk falling concrete walls or buildings. Any structures that are stil standing are NOT safe...
I grabbed a few kids and sat down for story time. I'm learning enough creole that I was able to translate some of the Dr. Seuss stories into English for them. Green Eggs and Ham was a hoot. I kept asking them if they'd eat green eggs and they'd all look at each other and then shake their heads 'no!' They begged me to keep reading. They loved the attention and the amusement of having something other than rocks to keep them entertained."--Lisa (from her blog)

"We visited a property yesterday. It's beautiful. It's set further into the countryside. It's a very large chunk of land and extends to the water. There is a huge potential for growth of the orphanage and has room to build the clinic, church, and dormitories that Jas and Greg dream of for the futrure of OLTCH. It would take a good year to build up what they need, so they would need to temporary relocate somewhere in the meantime."--Lisa (from her blog)

There is still so much to be done in Leogane and Haiti in general...SO PLESE KEEP PRAYING and remind everyone else too TO REMEMBER!!!!!!!!! just take a look at this youtube video!

He is traveling with Trish Van Pillson from Channel 9. He is still waiting to hear from Randy Morrison of World Wide Village. Please prayer for this organization and, especially this man, and he needs wisdom, prayer coverage, and continuued financial support for the awesome work he is doing for God''s kingdom.

2. pray for the Haitian nursing students Tim said they are having a hard time dealing with all the deaths around them... need to cover them in prayer and pray against depression and hopelessness

Guess What...Haiti still needs prayer!

It has been driving me nuts lately that people are already forgetting that Haiti still needs prayer. It seems already we are forgetting about the people in Haiti. NO! THEY STILL NEED PRAYER AND SUPPLIES!! Yes, they are stable (for right now) but we don't know for how much longer. Yes, God is supplying and blessings have been pouring down, but if we stop praying and crying out to God because it just seems like the news isn't talking about it much anymore or because it isn't "recent news" that is just stupid and who knows what God will allow if we don't cry out and ask for him to supply and what not!! We will continue to praise God for how faithful he is and for what he has been doing, but we also need to keep praying for Haiti!

On that note, here is an update on what is going on down in Leogane.

Tim and the team are doing well. I talked to Tim tonight for the first time on the phone :) (calls until the end of Jan. are free!!!)
Here is what he talked about and asked for prayer for. The first and biggest thing would be wisdom and discernment for everyone as they attend to the injured. There are still so many server injuries it gets hard. Also, there have been some HUGE "Why God?" moments and they all need prayer to work through those. Tim says Lisa is doing well. God is really helping her and strengthing her. Jasmine and Greg and the kids are doing better than a week ago. Tim says though that we need to pray for sleep at night for them as it is super loud with people, transporation and animals. Sleep is rough and it gets pretty cold as well. The tents have been helping with the cold, but they are still having trouble sleeping. The markets he said are open, but those who are poor and injured have no money to actually buy food so it is rough. Tim also mentioned that with so many different types of doctors, surgens and nurses with different personalities working together it gets hard when attending to the injured, so please pray for patience and against frustration, may there be unity and encouragment.

Update on collecting supplies for OLTCH and the nursing school:
I made an announcment on Wednesday the 20th in chapel for the Crown Community to step up to the cries of the Haitians and donate a bottle of medicine or give money to them to help send supplies and support them. Well, God provided! He is so good! We collected over 25,000 piles of all different kinds, 75 tubs of ointment, 61 bottles of infant and children medicine, tons of band-aids, gauze and what not, plus extra things with everything from coloring books to blankets to scrubs for the nurses! There is just so much that I can't even explain it, but God really provided through the giving of college students!!!! We are going to get as much of it down with Dan as possible when he leaves and then rest will get down there somehow. They really do still need it. We also collected $407 for OLTCH for put towards buying some land and building a new orphanage...that is the goal!

Man, there is just so much information, but I think that is all for now. Please just keep praying and remind everyone else to keep praying as well.

Will update you all again soon :)

God is GOOD!

Yet Another Update

Well, things in Leogane are going pretty well. Tim talked to Christina last night for the first time since Tuesday! Here's his update (from Christina)...

Tim said it is amazing, all the injuries he's never seen anything like it. He said the church that Freshwater was partnering with Lotte Carey is gone....nothing left on the the ground. He did not mention the Pastor or his family. Tim said it is very very ...hot and they drink water all day long and dont really need to go the restroom much. He said many of the students have been there faithfully working everyday even though most of them lost their homes. If I understood him correctly many of the students left today to go help families get their things together etc. Which they can do becuase tim and his team are there now. He sounded good said he was good mentally physically and emotionally. He said thanks for the prayers but to especially pray for the people who live there. This is awful for them.

So, there it is! Also, pray for Dan as he still isn't sure if he will be able to fly out tomorrow, depends on airlines!! So, please pray they let planes fly to Haiti, so he can take supplies and what not down!

Thank you so much for all the prayers!
I will continue to update as the day go on!!

Katelyn

One quick prayer request

Also, please pray for myself and my team from Freshwater church as we are still deciding what to do about going down in March. We could really use your prayer! Just pray that God will reveal to use LOUD AND CLEAR what to do!! THANKS!!!

What a day!!

What a day!! With the huge aftershocks today a lot of us were trying worry! God was faithful and kept his promises today...shocker!! haha. He kept Tim and Lisa and everyone safe!!! I have some PTL news (Praise the Lord news)!!

- THE ORPHANES ARE NOW BACK AT THE ORPHANAGE!!!!! God has really been protecting that building. Watch this video Tim posted today of the orphanage!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkTRodmJTLI

- Randy, who is with organization that Tim went down with (World Wide Village) donated a whole portable hospital to Leogane!! It will have 500 beds and a whole surgical sweet and within 42 hours it will up and running!! PTL!! (but also keep in mind that there are 5,000 people at the nursing school/refugee camp so although this will help, keep praying more supplies come. this will definitely help though!!)

We are still working on trying to see how to get food down to Leogane. We are close...we just need prayer for the right timing and supplies such a truck and gas to get it down to Miami. We need to pray for 4 semi loads of food and supplies shipped from Washing DC by love a child organization, was shipped to the Dominica Republic and being driven over to Leogane. Pary for safety of trucks. Also need a truck from God to get feed my starving children's food (which is 278,000 meals!) down to Miami, Florida in the next day or so. There are the prayer requests!

Tim is doing fine down Leogane, attending to many people and strengthing those who need it like Jasmine and Greg! Continue to pray for him and the team of other doctors. Here is the update he posted on his facebook:

Quick update. We saw around 100 patients today - 3 orthopedic surgeries. Lots of wounds, lacerations, broken bones, infections. To all of my nursing friends (and anyone else). The nursing school down here is AWESOME, these students have more then held their own. I'm going to start some sort of fund for the students when I get back. Think about it. Off to grab a power bar and go to bed. Keep praying!

That is all for now folks! I will update you more as it comes!!

In His precious and loving name,
Katelyn Moore

Leogane

Here is a link to watch to see just how offal it is down in Leogane where the orphanage and nursing school is. Rigan is in the video!!!!!!!!!! BEWARE: it is pretty graphic!
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/world/2010/01/18/penhaul.haiti.forgotten.leogane.cnn?hpt=C2

Wow...it sure has been a long week and weekend. Right now, I am sitting on my bed just processing through once again how much has happened. It is hard at times, especially at night, to fall asleep, so I decided to blog! What a novelty! haha.

My heart just continues to break for Jasmine and Greg and the children, as well as for all the Haitians, but especially these people whom I have gotten to know since November 2009. At times it has been hard to move on with life. I have a lot of other responsibilities and what not and a lot of the time it is hard to keep doing all of it when I know what is going on down in Haiti, or more because of the lack of information I know about what is going on down in Haiti. But I have great support from friends and family. My friend Kate told me "You need to keep going FOR THEM!" And she is right! At times though too, I just don't understand why them and not me, but I guess God is working on my lack of trust in who he is.

God is God, I am not! Which is a good thing, but a hard thing for me to understand. I do trust God, but I still hold on to things? Sorry, but that is not trust. I desire to trust, but why can't I???? This has really been a test for me and I want to pass, but WOW, TALK ABOUT HARD!! Do I trust that God is with Jasmine and Greg and all the children? Do I trust he will protect Tim? Do I trust that he will provide for his people? Do I trust he KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING?? I mean he is God for crying aloud, he knows all!

Isaiah 55:8-10

8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
declares the LORD.
9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 So is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

God is much bigger than we can ever even imagine and that is crazy! This passage is reminding me of that! God never, ever, EVER breaks his promises and this passage is also a promise!

Daddy, Abba, Father,
Be with the people in Haiti tonight, Lord. Be with Anika and all the other orphanes. Comfort them with your unfailing love and compassion. May they feel you. Give Jasmine and Greg strength and hope. Protect them, send angels to watch over all of them. Be with Tim and Lisa and everyone else flying down tomorrow. God, go before them. Protect them and POUR out your love, strength and joy onto them. As they step off the plane tomorrow and see and smell the horrors may you give them all they need. Help us all here as well. Comfort those who need it, give discernment in many different situations where it is need and may we REJOICE IN WHO YOU ARE, as you command us to do! Break our hearts to help and give in whatever way we can! May you be glorified. Be with us all, we NEED YOU. WE ARE DESPERATE FOR YOU!!
AMEN

Goodnight all! I need to be up in like 5 hours, so I better try to get some sleep!

God is good,
Katelyn

More about Haiti...better details

Hello All!

So, Tim left for Haiti this morning from St. Paul with Lisa Richards, and then they were meeting up with Rigan's sister as well, in Fort Lauderdale, Flordia. Right now they are all in Flordia with an organization called Save the Children arranged through a company called World Wide Village and are leaving to fly directly to the nursing school/ refugee camp now with 5,000 Haitians in Leogane tomorrow, leaving from the airport around 4:30am. They have to be at the airport around 1:00am to board the plane. There are 11 people including our 3. Their team consists of 6 doctors and 5 supporting staff and they are taking down 1400 lbs of medical supplies, which is great, but no food or water. Although there are a lot of medical supplies going down, it will not last a long time, but praise the Lord the supplies are going down! We still need to gather much, much more!! And we also need to work on finding a plane for food and water to get down there...but that is another project we are and will be working on!

The cool story about how Tim and Lisa got on this plane is definitely a God thing. Deb Kullberg, the team leader for my group to Haiti in March, was at the huge meeting with all the different organizations last friday and sat behind this man who was a part of the World Wide Village company and gave her his contact number. She also got a lot of other numbers of people and it was overwhelming, but she gave the list to Tim for contacts and told him if he is to contact anyone to contact Randy, from World Wide Village because Tim said he only wanted to contact ONE PERSON ONLY! So, Deb picked Randy. She told him that not because she knew they were going and their might be a flight and group going, but because he might have some supplies for Tim. Well, God had other planes and we PRAISE him for it! HE'S SO GOOD!! Randy ended up giving Tim a name of another person who might be able to get them on a flight, well they got on the flight!! I just love God!! Now, they will be down there in less than 10 hours!!!

So, please pray for this team of 11. They are all very tired and have a long, shocking day ahead of them followed by a rough 12 days they are there. Hopefully tomorrow Tim will be able to contact me with exact prayer requests and requests for supplies! Just pray for them. Also pray for the Christina and the boys as even though they are trusting God, it is hard and the enemy is attacking the boys!

New updates and prayer requests will come as fast as I get them!
Thank you for your prayers!! Keep praying for Haiti, the Haitians, Jasmine and Greg, the orphanes and Leogane in general!!

God is GOOD and we will praise HIS NAME!!

In Him,
Katelyn

Tim in Haiti!!

Tim left for Haiti this morning!

Here is the low-down...
They are flying to Fort Lauderdale with a big organization from St. Paul. There were only 3 places on left on the plane, so by the grace of God did they get on this plane!! They will have full blown military security and will be trying to fly directly into Leogane, but if that doesn't happen they will land in the Dominican Republican and take a military escorte into Leogane. This is a huge trip actually, huge in the fact of the amount of protection and level of urgency...people inside know about it and it is big!! They are also picking up Rigan's sister in florida as well (Rigan is a friend,a Haitian, down in Leogane)and then going down. So the people that we know who are going with this big organization and the government down are Tim, Rigan's sister, and Lisa Richards, a senior nursing student who has been to Haiti 5 times before. She just actually got back in December from a trip down there to bring them food. Dan, who was going to go with Tim, is not going yet, but he is going to wait to hear from Tim and his assessment and pray whether to go or not. He still has a flight on Saturday.

Last night the Bristol's upstairs looked like a drugstore threw up all over! We had medicine and ointments all over the place. Tim took as much as he possibly could and if things go the way we hope, then on Saturday when Dan goes, Dan can bring more and also Tim can assess what of more he needs.

This is just all so crazy. As I hugged Tim last night I knew that God's will would be done as he is down in Haiti. Tim is like a dad to me and so it is a little hard, but I am definitely working on trusting God! God has amazing plans for him, but it is a rough place right now and yes, very dangerous. It is a complete mess over there still, especially Leogane because it has been 4 days and help is now just starting to come!!!

PLEAE PRAY:

- pray for Tim, Lisa and Rigan's sister as they head down

- pray for Christina, Hans, Kristofer and myself, as this is going to a rough day until we hear from him when he actually get there

- pray for his safety and pray that he can help many people

- pray he can get a good assessment and that Dan will be able to go with more supplies!

- continue to pray for Jasmine and Greg and the orphanes!!!!!

I will let you all know more once I know more!! Thanks for the prayers!!

All my love in the name of Christ,
Katelyn

Haiti...

As, most of you probably know Haiti endured a massive earthquake (7.0) on Tuesday, January 12th and almost everything has totally been destroyed. The country was unstable before the earthquake hit, not even a week ago, but now with very few medical supplies, no food and no water, survival of the fittess has begun to take place. It is mass chaos down there and we cannot seem to get a good grasp of how truly our friends are holding up.

I do not know how many of you know that I was planning (and still am planning) to go to Haiti to work with the school and orphanage. (I decided in November 2009 to make the trip over spring break, from March 12th-22nd) Tim Bristol has been down many times and works with the nursing school, elementary school, orphanage (Operation Love The Children of Haiti [OLTCH]), and the church down there. And my church up in Minnesota, Freshwater Community Church, has begun to partner with the orphanage down in Haiti just in tha past year or so. In November 2009, I began to learn more about the orphanage and the children there. Jasmine and Greg, the owners (who are American by the way, not Haitian), came to visit Freshwater Community Church and I had the opportunity to meet them and discuss what I could do while I was down in Haiti (in March 2010) with the orphange. They are such a great couple and God has truly blessed them for their obeidence in Haiti. I began learning about the kids as well and now feel like I practically know them, although I have never "actually" met them. God really began to press Haiti and the Haitians into my heart. Haiti is a country in desperate country in need of so much.

I just want to first give those of you who don't know much about Haiti and my connections a chance to know more about it and then I will update you all on how things are going so far...well, update you as much as I can!

The orphanage that is very dear to my heart and that I will be helping is OLTCH, Operation Love The Children of Haiti and it is loacted in Leogane, Haiti. That is about 20 miles from Port Au Prince. They house 38 orphanes and about 10 workers, in a small two-story building. They rescue dieing orphanes off the streets and treat them back to health, while teaching them Biblical truths and leading the to the one who created everything! The ages of the children range from newborn to 12-13 years old. Jasmine and Greg do a great job and the stories of the children are phenomenal! The whole Bristol family (Tim, Christina, Kristofer, and Hans) have been down to help in the orphanage and the school and now it will be my turn to go! Also, I was going to be working at the elementary school teaching english and running a VBS (Vacation Bible School) program for the children (which is dear to my heart and passion as well), but I don't think that will be happening anymore because the elementary school is leveled.

That is pretty much my connection to Haiti. The Bristol's (who are like my family up here) had a passion for it and Christina Bristol mentioned to me that I needed to be praying about it one day in October 2009 and little did I know that it was God wanted for me.

So, with that said, the news of Haiti now breaks my heart. I find myself weeping over the devestation there and the stories I hear, as well as seeing pictures of the horror. The hardest part is not really knowing what is going on. We know only about 1% of what is really going on and with no real contact with anyone down there it makes things frustrating. Not only that, but by the time we recieve news of anything, if we do, it is about 24-48 hours old already! It makes it really hard to know how to pray, what to pray for and doesn't help in our assurance that those we know and love are okay. We will hear one thing and then literally 24 hours later we get news back of something completely different. Like I said, this just adds so the frustration we already have.

Here is as much information as I know about Haiti, but be warned, it will most likely change and change fast as we recieve as much new information as we can, as fast as we can.

Although Port Au Prince was hit hard, Leogane was hit even harder. On tuesday, when the earthquake hit, almost all the kids where in the basement and the workers were taking 4-5 kids at a time and throwing them to each other to get them out of building as fast as possible. Throwing them out the windows to people as there were a lot of kids to get out of the building. All of them got out safe, not one scratch! PRAISE THE LORD! The building however, although it is the only building (two-stories as well) standing in the whole area, every other building around them leveled, it still has suffered great damage. And because of the big aftershocks (5.0 and 5.5), it has too much damage for them to ever live in it again. They are now living outside the nursing school (which is about 20-30 miles away from their building) in the 10 acres of land, along with 5,000 other Haitians!!! We are thankful though they are there and have a place to stay because there, although it is crowded, there is protection from the government and it is on the map so the government can air-drop SOME food and supplies to the 5,000 people. However, we are still very concerned about Jasmine and Greg themselves as they are continuing to live at the orphanage building to literally protect the very little food and supplies they have left that haven't been stolen yet, while the workers stay with the children at the "refuge camp" at the nursing school. We are all very worried about their protection because in this state of survival of the fittess, anyone will do anything, including climbing over the wall of the building and beating Greg until they get the food or supplies they want. It is super scary to think about, but totally realistic. Still though, there is just not enough supplies and food to feed the children from our orphanage for much longer!

Yesterday though, we did a fundrasier for OLTCH at the local grocery market Mackenthun's, bagging groceries and raised $2600 which Tim will take to help them down there and then today at church, the people from our church gave almost $4000 to help support the orphanage as all the money will go directly to getting food and supplies to them. So God is providing like he promises!

Well, oher than the orphanage, the nursing school is like I said for the most part still okay and holding up. The elementary school and church though are not, as much as I know. The church especially is leveled, but we haven't heard much really. At this point that is all the updates I really have.

Tim and a few others are heading down on Saturday the 23rd and we will know that just how much damage was done and what the next step in helping the orphanage will be. He will be assessing it all first hand. This leads me into my next section of this blog, the prayer request section.

Right now there are a few specific things I am asking you all to pray about...
one- pray for Tim as he heads down. We trust that God will keep him safe, but it is still a scary thought. pray that he will be able to get a good assessment to help us in the next step of aid for the orphanage and country too. pray for safe travels and against sickness. pray also for us here, waiting to hear from him, especially Christina and the boys.

two- pray for their packing in heading down there. Tim wants to take as much as he can to help the Haitians, but there is only so much he can take with all the stuff he has to take just for himself. pray that God will make more room than we think possible so he can take more supplies to help.

three- pray for Jasmine and Greg and their protection and what not, along with praying for the kids. They are all very scared and hungry.

four- pray for us as a Team, who are going down in March (God willing). pray that we will be able to discren well when to really go, if to go at all. We need prayer also as we stay here trying to prepare and wait for Tim to return.

five- pray for the Christians in America and around the world. pray that we listen to God as he leads us to give and pray for the Haitians!

That is all I have for now. Actually, I am probably missing something in this blog because there is just so much to remember. Well, if I forgot something I will just write another blog! lol

I will keep you all updated as best as I can. As soon as I know you will know. But keep praying, that is all we can do. Call out to God!

In Him,
Katelyn
